- The Story of Sophie Maxwell
My work tells stories about place. I had the incredible opportunity to tell a story of a site in flux and a new neighborhood in bloom.
The Power Station is a site of a deep industrial history, a site of environmental justice and an emerging neighborhood dedicated to empowering communities. This commitment is reflected in Associate Capital’s 100% workforce housing development, the Sophie Maxwell Building. My goal was to breathe life, light, and emotion into the architecture through art, give meaning to material through storytelling and center the histories and communities who helped shape this place.
Working closely with Associate Capital and Sophie Maxwell, I created four site-specific public artworks that reflect and respect the site -- the history that took place there, the stewards that protected it.
